I guess I'm kind of 'thinking out loud' and trying to figure out how I would ID the different species. Thus, I never had to distinguis them from a marsh.

I can ask a colleague of mine at the NC Museum who who might have a better idea, and get back to you....Trailblazerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09949103831752176052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7268542543738300058.post-54487920295460818172012-03-19T16:03:46.207-07:002012-03-19T16:03:46.207-07:00This may be a silly question, but how do you know ...This may be a silly question, but how do you know that is an Eastern cottontail?

I have little experience with camera-trapped lagos and we only have ECs where I live..so, so far it's been easy for me to ID. BUT, I was wondering if while I was in NC, and I got a lago, then how would I figure out if it's a marsh or EC?Alyssa Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05944057074589003472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7268542543738300058.post-83418390342063754282012-03-18T08:00:42.581-07:002012-03-18T08:00:42.581-07:00Well....I don't own tthe property, so I'm ...Well....I don't own tthe property, so I'm limited.

Now that I know how many there are, I may try to organize a trip to the humane society with them i the future (if I get landowner permission, that is!).Trailblazerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09949103831752176052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7268542543738300058.post-43619016578297157632012-03-18T07:44:58.695-07:002012-03-18T07:44:58.695-07:00Have you considered doing anything with those fera...Have you considered doing anything with those feral cats other than release them...?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14285610649119277081noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7268542543738300058.post-81064886953645270082012-03-17T05:21:35.569-07:002012-03-17T05:21:35.569-07:00....although, if you're not careful it results.......although, if you're not careful it results in your shoes still getting stinky.....especially if it's windy and the tarp is blowing ;)

But, seriously, the tarp blocks the spray...but it also keeps the skunk calm. If you approach slowly with the tarp in front of you, they can't see you and tend not to get as riled up.

I tie some lead sinkers for fishing nets to the bottom of the tarp to help hold it down if the wind is blowing.

Another trick is to fasten the top of the tarp to rod or dowel so that you can hold it up with one hand if need be (keeps your other hand free for other things).

I'm not a skunk-tarp expert, or anything, but it's worked for me!Trailblazerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09949103831752176052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7268542543738300058.post-31068153144579019132012-03-17T00:20:40.079-07:002012-03-17T00:20:40.079-07:00approaching the cage with a tarp - that is very cl...approaching the cage with a tarp - that is very clever.Cindyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13378411362651806039noreply@blogger.com
